Welcome
Hi!
I'm Simon de Bruijne. Welcome to my portfolio page!
I'm a developer, a designer, and an artist (sometimes), but mainly a developer. I've been told this makes me a "unicorn", where I am willing to do almost all parts of making a game. I like the title, so I'm keeping it.
I like to work with people, inspire them, and let myself be inspired. I strive to make fun things, things I'd enjoy, and I hope other will too.
Keep exploring the site and maybe you'll find some cool things!
If the site is finished, there should be some lore and easter eggs hidden within the site. If there are not, you're probably seeing this site before it's truly finished, probably because I need to find an internship and there's a deadline on finding one.
Welcome

About
When I was young, as others, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. Somehow, and I'm not sure why, my answer was "inventor". My guess is that I really liked Gyro Gearloose (yes, from Donald Duck), and I wanted to do what he did.
I started out with designing outlandish ideas that you could actually see Gyro doing, like floating chairs or sentient vacuum cleaners. Eventually, I stumbled upon video games. And after a while, I got interested in how they were made. I wanted to make games of my own.
After high school I decided I wanted to make games. The design process was still very unknown to me, but I can't get anywhere without trying. I started out dabbling in Game Design, and eventually expanded my horizon to Game Development as well (with a little art here and there).
Currently I'm focused on being a Game Developer, looking to make things that are fun and interesting. That does not only include games, but physical toys as well. It seems I've looped back into becoming an inventor again.
At the moment I'm still a student, making university projects that don't last longer than a few months. I like experimenting with a variety of coding languages and design perspectives. You can often find me doing the occasional game jam, and experimenting with different media.

Experience
To start, here is a hard list of the programming languages I have experience with. Approximately in order of most experience:
- C# (Unity)
- Java
- HTML
- CSS
- Javascript
- Arduino
- Three.js
- Python
Besides development, I like to try other creative things as well. I make art sometimes, including traditional, digital and 3D modeling. If you see art on any of my pages or in any of my games, which isn't attributed to someone else, it'd be a fair assumption that I made it. I also like to write. In the present my writing only comes forward in dialogue, or story based games. I did write some short stories, but that was a while ago, and they don't hold up as well as I'd like.
I have purposefully excluded this branching of creativity from the projects page, as I'd like to focus on game development and game design. If you would like to know more about other things I make, feel free to send me a message, I'd be eager to share.
I have the most experience with Unity and C#, it's the engine my college bases its classes around, and I have grown accustomed to using it.
I do sometimes dabble with other languages as well. This website is made with HTML, CSS and Javascript, from scratch.
I also have experience with Java, and have stood in front of a high school class, teaching it as part of a masterclass project of that particular school.
I have used Arduino and Python to work with physical projects, using Arduino and Raspberry Pi computers.
Three.js was used to create a prototype for another site. It's a lesser known, 3D focused version of javascript.
